December Roundup

Jan 3rd, 2020 | Advocacy | Comment

Merry Christmas! We had a fruitful month this December. Refugee Union Hong Kong was founded in 2014 with visions to safeguard the rights of protection claimants, simultaneously to ameliorate their living standards and life chances. Since our establishment, we have been cooperating closely with different stakeholders in the community, including but not limited to schools, corporates and charities, organising diversified programmes to actualise our members’ social and psychological well-being.

DONATIONS

This month we are grateful to receive donations of necessities from the Amber Foundation. We are also elated by the donations of Christmas boxes—in a bulk amount—from the German Swiss International School, Madam Eva and other anonymous donors. Thank you very much for their generosity!

EVENTS

Meanwhile, we are honoured to have a group of volunteer doctors from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong visiting us and providing free medical consultation services for our members—adults, kids and families. Thank you in advance for their time and efforts!

To share the joy of the festival, we held a Christmas party on 21 December with our donors, volunteers and members joining us. Thank you everyone for coming, we had the warmest winter!

For regular activities, every Tuesday we welcome all members to join our Yoga class—a healthy sport for stress mitigation and mind refreshment. Besides, we have Dr. Terrence Shum from the Open University of Hong Kong teaching Cantonese on every Saturday—strengthening language proficiency to better fit-in to community. On the same day, we also have a tutorial session lead by a group of committed students from the Canadian International School, teaching children homework and assisting them in doing revision.

Approaching the end of 2019, we would like to grasp this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who have been supporting us since always. Despite the hardship induced by current upheavals, we, as usual, serving with our initial heart, sparing no pain to pursuing a better society with justice and fairness to everyone, regardless of who they are and where they belong to. Stay tuned to our official website and Facebook page for more information and updates, and feel free to contact us by visiting our office or sending us email at info@refugeeunion.org should you have any enquiry. We wish everyone all the best in the coming year!
